I had a random thought today.
I wondered if, somehow, the image of a unicorn could have been inspired by a baby.
When babies are little, we often gather the hair on the top of their heads into a tiny ponytail.
From a distance, it almost looks like a little horn.
Then I thought about what unicorns represent.
They're rare.
One of a kind.
A little magical.
Maybe that's exactly how parents see their children.
Every child is someone's unicorn. Not because they're perfect. But because, to the people who love them, there will never be another quite like them.
Perhaps that's why we naturally protect them, celebrate them, and believe they can do wonderful things.
I don't know if unicorns were ever inspired by babies. Probably not.
But I like the thought that somewhere, a parent looked at a tiny ponytail, smiled, and saw something magical. Maybe that's where magic begins after all.
Every family has a unicorn. They just happen to call them their child.
